I had my babygate pool fence installed by the corporate office in January of 2000. I was so pleased that when they asked me if they could use my name as a reference I said sure. I was called by a potential customer and I gave glowing references. Since that time I have had other occasions to recommended babygate to anyone who has a pool. Very recently, I was trying to convince someone with dogs to put the babygate pool fence up in her enclosed pool.
I publicly apologize for misleading people and making these recommendations. I highly recommend NOT to purchase babygate pool fencing.

REALITY CHECK

Compare that to how they used to make the fencing.

What a disappointment in dealing with the same people five years later.

• I initially bought 120 feet of 45" black fencing, installed for $2,000.00.
• After a hurricane, I needed some replacement panels.
• I called babygate corporate in Indian Harbor Beach.
  • I said I needed 45 inch black replacement fencing. I said I would need one 12 foot panel and possibly two 6 foot panels.
  • On the phone, I was quoted approximately $175 for a 12 foot and about $90 for each 6 foot.
  • I said okay and we arranged a date for Gary to come out.
• The day Gary was to come out
  • he called and told me he had car problems
  • told me he would be out later in the week.
• Friday, I get a call from Gary that he is on his way. I explain that I am not going to be home.
  We agree that
  • he can go into the backyard and look around and if he has the product on the truck he can leave (1) 12 foot panel and (1) 6 foot panel at the house
  • I can leave a check in the amount of $323.40 (this is higher than what I was told on the phone, I questioned him about it, he told me it is 16.95 per foot and I should not have been quoted any other price). I did not have a written quote at the other price so I didn't argue the point further.
• I arrive home to find 54" fencing leaning on my fence, and no receipt.
• I call and explain that the 54" fencing is not going to work with my 45" fencing.
• I get a call from Gary saying that the 45" is no longer made
  • He will have to make it and deliver it next week
  • I ask if there is a price change (I believe I was quoted the 45" price and paid the 54" price). Gary says no, no change in price.
• On Monday, Gary delivers the 45" fencing.
  • I ask him to remain while I install the fencing to be sure that everything fits right.
  • I ask him for a receipt, he says, sure he can do that and he goes into his truck to write up the receipt.
  • I am still struggling with the installation of the 12 foot panel by the pool when he has the receipt ready. Gary he yells out that it will all fit fine, he leaves the receipt by the gate to the yard, and drives away.
• Does this look "fine" to you?

  Not to me!

• That's not all! The older poles all had weights in the poles at the bottom, giving them stability. The new poles are HOLLOW. There is much more 'wiggle' with the newer poles.
• Did you notice the netting and how it is crooked instead of straight up and down!! Amazing, you would think I was buying 'seconds', irregulars, or throw aways!
• I called regarding the horrible matching job that was done Actually, I called saying do not use me as a reference anymore;
  • I was told that they no longer make the 45", and that I was given what they had.
    I was never informed of a possibility of a mismatch
  • I was told that I was not 'working with them' by understanding what happened.
    Being aware that they did not tell me up front that this may turn out ugly did not make me any more content with the horrible service and poor quality craftsmanship
  • I was not offered any kind of discount for such shabby craftsmanship and
  • the person on the phone was offended when I said the service was poor.
  • The call ended on a bad note.
