Cool Treats

Homemade Frosty Paws

(version 1)

1 banana
4 ozs plain or Vanilla yogurt
2 ozs water

Process till smooth and pour into old frosty paws cups, ramekins, muffin pans, cupcake pans, etc. (I reuse the individual applesauce cups that Motts applesause comes in!)
 Freeze and serve.

This recipe fills about 3 FP cups.

Variations on Frosty Paws Ingredients:

2 Jumbo (32 oz.) plain or vanilla yogurt
1 Small (6 oz.) can of tuna in water (You can substitute a can of chicken for the tuna.)
1 Teaspoon of garlic powder

Homemade Frosty Paws

(version 2)

1 Quart Vanilla Yogurt
1 Medium Banana
2 Tablespoons Natural Peanut Butter**
2 Tablespoons Honey

Puree the banana in a food processor or blender.
Add peanut butter and honey and continue processing until smooth.
Add yogurt and process just long enough to blend all ingredients together.
Place 18 small paper cups (bathroom size) in a baking pan (one 9x13 or two 8x8 works well).
Fill paper cups 2/3's full. An ice cream scoop or measuring cup makes the job easier.
Freeze until solid. Transfer to zip-lock bags for storing in the freezer.

** Natural Peanut Butter is MUCH HEALTHIER for us and our dogs. Processed peanut butter is hydrogenated so that it chemically looks like and acts like cholesterol. The only added step to "open and eat" is that you mix the oil in (we use a knife and mix right in the jar - it will not separate again). Only takes a minute or two and well worth the health benefits. Smuckers and Publix make very good brands of natural PB and surely there are many others.

Another cool treat.

Mix soup/broth/bouillon 50/50 with water, and freeze in ice cube trays, or muffin pans, etc. For variety add frozen veggies.

Variation on this one:
1 can chicken broth (Fat & Salt Free is best)
1 can water **
Fill 6 plastic cups (5 1/2 oz size) half full with broth
Fill to top with water
FREEZE
**You can also replace the water with Gatorade or Pedialyte for a bit of an extra boost.

Fishcicles

Freeze whole small fish.

NOT a "cool" treat but fun all the same!

Take a cardboard tube from a paper towel roll - Cut in half (or use a toilet tissue roll). Place a dog biscuit inside the tube, toward the center. The biscuit that I have found to fit perfectly, (nice and tight but you can get it in without tearing the tube) are Old Mother Hubbard brand Assorted Flavor Large size and Grreat Choice Breath Biscuits with Eucalyptus Oil. The tube will be more flat than round but the dogs don't care! Hand the tubes to the dogs and watch them get busy!
