Abrams took Ella to an emergency vet clinic the night Ella was tangled in the leash. Emergency vet wrapped the leg and instructed Abrams to take Ella to her regular vet in the morning. Abrams took Ella to her vet the next morning, under Steve Davis' name (the on again, off again boyfriend who owns the place where Abrams was arrested).
Ella was prescribed pain medication and a lot of antibiotics for a month. Ella's vet tried to save Ella's leg, but it wasn't helping. Ella had too much skin that was dying....lots of gangrene.
Abrams was told there were two options.
- Save the leg. The bone was OK, but the skin was dying. Several skin grafts and operations could save the leg. Cost could be as much as $4,000.00
- Amputation. Cost was less than $1,000.
Ella's leg was amputated when she was 10 months old.
Vet records indicate Ella adjusted and was walking fine. No crate rest was needed. Vet records state that Ella preferred to be out back in their run, not in a cage.
