Over-processing and chemical additives destroy much of the nutritional value of foods. Most companies prepare pet food by steaming it as quickly as possible, usually less than three minutes, then extruding it under extreme pressure through a metal die. The process expands the food with air creating a uniform shape. This method does not produce the highly digestible food that the baking process creates. The good value is baked-in, not sprayed on.

Many pet food labels show animal meat by-products. Meat by-products may not actually provide a nourishing and balanced diet for pets. Such by-products can include diseased and contaminated slaughterhouse meats, feathers, intestines, hair, animal road kills, euthanized companion animals and dehydrated garbage all rendered together. These are used in some pet foods.

FLINT RIVER RANCH uses no breakfast food by-products, cottonseed, corn cobs, peanut hulls, wood fibers, citrus pulp, soy beans, fillers or other foreign materials such as weeds, straw or chaff in our foods.

    Ingredients, what are they?

    • Meat Meal - Rendered meal made from animal tissue. It cannot contain hair, hoof, blood, horn, hide trimmings, stomach or rumen (the first stomach) contents, or manure except for amounts that may not be avoided during processing. It cannot contain any added foreign matter and may not contain more than 14% indigestible materials. Indigestible crude protein in the meal cannot be more than 11%. Meals are also used after processing and give a more true actual weight on the list of ingredients for placement over whole meats or "wet-state" meats.

    Fresh water should be available at all times. Maintaining fresh, clean water is as important for your cat as the type of food fed.
    Adult cats can be fed once or twice a day; whatever keeps your cat happy. Your cat should be looking for food when the next meal is due. Teach them to eat at meal times. The amount your cat eats in 5-10 minutes is about the amount they should be fed at that meal. Adjust the food as you notice increase or decrease in the cat's weight. Young kittens may be started on Flint River Ranch by mixing with a little warm water. Feed food dry as soon as the kittens teeth are strong enough to chew hard food (8 to 10 weeks). Feed kittens about 3 times a day - after 6 months twice a day.
