PCHS closes doors to keep animal population down
The
Polk County Humane Society (the name of the org at the time) which
rescued the dogs from Lodestar had to close its doors to the public
this past winter, temporarily, to accomodate the rescued dogs. The
shelter dogs had to leave. All Paws Rescue helped collect spay/neuter
donatations for the shelter dogs and helped remove the shelter dogs.
Many of the Lodestar dogs were moved to the shelter runs, a few are
still outside in the pens.Articles in Mena Star (Nov. 21, 2002) regarding the closing of Polk County Humane Society here and here.
Foster homes available
If
Vicci Andrews would relinquish custody the conditions at the HS would
improve. There is no man power, no donations and the facility is too
small to handle the population. There are offers for fostering many of
the dogs, which would help, greatly, but because of the ongoing fight
that Vicci Andrews puts up, the dogs are not allowed to go to those
foster homes.Andrews is aware that the conditions at the HS are
deteriorating, she has even taken photos and published them online.
Will she help the animals by relinquishing custody so that her dogs can
be saved? No, not at all. She allows the conditions to worsen -- it
certainly aids her case! (see Andrews Charges PCHS, below) Obviously,
this is not caring about the dogs, this is a selfish motivation.
Lodestar to get some pens returned
The hearing on Wed Dec 18th did not prove fruitful for the Lodestar
animals. PCHS must return all unused pens to Vicci Andrews. We can only
speculate what Vicci will do with the pens, the fear, of course is that
she will promptly fill them up with more captives.
Jan
24th was the clarification of a previous ruling by Judge Ryan in
district court. PCHS was ordered to turn over some pens that are not
being used.
Andrews charges PCHS
Final hearing in circuit court for case number CV 2002-173 will be on March 5 10th, 2003. This is the case where Vicci Andrews is charging Polk County Humane Society with all sorts of little things. Andrews is blaming the PCHS for a dog that died on her
location after the rescue of the other dogs. According to Vicci's
complaint this dog died on the road near Lodestar while Vicci went to
the vet, somehow Vicci sees this is the fault of PCHS (?). She
fails to recognize it as her own lack of responsibility. There is more,
quite a bit more! Vicci doesn't like it that there was more than two
dogs to a pen at the Humane Society. She seems to forget how many she
had in each pen, we all saw the photos! She also, again, fails to
accept the responsibility for this -- if she would relinquish custody
the overcrowding at the HS would stop! Much of what Vicci states in her
complaint is old news.
PCHS President Is Removed
A highlight
to this fiasco is that the President of PCHS has stepped down. She was
doing a terrible job, but no worse than Vicci Andrews is doing at
Lodestar.
